Gold Sovereign Coin 2024
Product Description
The Full Gold Sovereign Coin 2024 features the iconic St George and the Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci, which was first used on the sovereign coin in 1817. The obverse of the coin displays an uncrowned portrait of King Charles III, created by sculptor Martin Jennings.
The gold sovereign coin holds a significant place in British history, with the first sovereign minted in 1489 under King Henry VII. The modern version, with Pistrucci’s St George and the Dragon design on the reverse, was introduced in 1817. Due to its long-standing history, the UK Sovereign coin is considered the flagship coin of The Royal Mint.
Gold Sovereigns are exempt from Capital Gains Tax (CGT), making them an ideal product for British investors.
History of the Gold Sovereign
Since 650 AD, various mints across Great Britain have produced coins. By around 1540, most of these mints had closed, leaving the Royal Mint as the sole mint in operation.
In 1663, Great Britain moved away from hand-striking coins and introduced new manufacturing processes. The use of screw presses and horse-drawn rolling mills enabled the production of “milled coins,” marking a significant advancement in coinage manufacturing.
